About Us

What is Wild Land Management LLC (WLM)?

My name is Justin Weisent, I am the owner and primary operator of WLM. I started the company in 2023 because of my deep passion for the natural world and because I saw a great need for wise management of “wild” lands in northeastern Ohio. WLM is a land management and consulting company that specializes in the fields of forestry, wildlife management/control, conservation and outdoor recreation. The mission statement is “helping you get the most out of your land” and that’s exactly what I do. Every property is vastly different and so are the goals of property owners. I can help you dream up goals and provide a way to make those dreams a reality.

About the owner

I grew up on a dairy farm in NE Ohio where I learned the value of honest hard work and developed a deep passion for the outdoors. After high school, I decided to continue my education at Hocking College and West Virginia University where I earned degrees in wildlife management and conservation ecology. After graduating, I worked a variety of jobs for 9 years in the fields of forestry, wildlife management and environmental consulting. This education and professional experience gave me the knowledge and financial stability needed to start WLM as a side business in 2023. By 2024, I was blessed with an overwhelming demand for services, and I made the decision to make WLM my sole career.

More importantly than my profession, I am a husband to the best wife and a father of 2 amazing children. I enjoy bow hunting, river kayaking, gardening and doing almost anything outside with my family. I am deeply rooted in my faith in Jesus Christ and believe that my passion for the outdoors is from Him. I understand that I am a flawed human, but strive to reflect Jesus in how I live. This not only includes how I conduct myself or raise my family, but how I operate my business.

Why is it important?

Aldo Leopold once said that "a thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise." He also said, “the oldest task in human history was to live on one piece of land without spoiling it”. I believe that it is a very good (“right”) thing for us to live on our land, use it, enjoy it and not spoil it. In fact, it is a God given command. In Genesis 1 it says “…fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground”. I believe that this is a command to be an active part of this world but also take care of it.

In no way am I saying that nature is the ONLY important thing! I love and support farming, mining, logging, conservation, hunting, urban development and so much more. I’m simply saying that as we use the land, we should have an awareness of its effects on ALL life. We can and should use our land in many different, but we should not do so in a way that “spoils” it. History has proven that this task can be quite difficult. Humans have spent thousands of years learning and still continue to learn through trial and error how to be stewards of the natural world. We have made some very big environmental mistakes that impact us to this day.

WLM strives to always be learning and adapting. We are built on lessons learned from past generations as well as our own trial and error. We strive for excellence but understand that the natural world is complex and ever changing. We believe that the only true expert when it comes to wild lands is God himself.
